Hoki: Malaysia Layak Ke Piala Dunia 2014 |
Sepanyol mengesahkan tempat ke Piala Dunia 2014 apabila Jerman menjuarai Kejohanan Eropah mengalahkan Belgium (25 Ogos 2013) sebagai pasukan kesembilan. Dengan berbaki tiga tempat lagi, Malaysia secara tidak rasmi sudah melayakkan diri.
Kejayaaan Argentina mengalahkan Kanada 4-0 pada Piala Pan Amerika 2013 di Brampton, Kanada (18 Ogos 2013) membuka ruang kepada Korea layak ke Hoki Piala Dunia 2014 sebagai pasukan kelapan. Dengan berbaki 4 lagi tempat Malaysia mencerahkan harapan untuk turut layak selepas kali terakhir beraksi pada 2002 sebagai tuanrumah.
Pasukan simpanan selepas kedua-dua acara Liga Hoki Dunia separuh akhir mengikut aturan adalah Sepanyol, Malaysia dan India. Juara peringkat benua di Eropah, Asia, Oceania dan Afrika akan layak ke Piala Dunia.
Sepanyol akan layak jika pasukan itu atau Jerman, Belanda, Belgium atau England menjuarai Kejohanan Hoki Eropah yang berlangsung 17-25 Ogos 2013 di Boom, Belgium. (Kumpulan A: Sepanyol, Jerman, Belgium, Czech Republic dan Kumpulan B: Belanda England, Poland, Ireland). Ini membuka jalan kepada Malaysia layak kerana berada di simpanan berikutnya.
Piala Oceania 2013 di Taranaki, New Zealand pada 30 Oktober hingga 3 November 2013 dengan Australia, New Zealand, Samoa dan Papua New Guinea. Dengan andaian Australia atau New Zealand menjuarai peringkat Oceania, Malaysia sudah layak ke Piala Dunia 2014.
Jika ingin layak lebih awal Piala Asia di Ipoh 24 Ogos - 1 September 2013 menjadi kepastian jika Malaysia atau Korea menjuarainya. Andai Korea johan, India akan turut layak dengan Pakistan tersingkir dari Piala Dunia. Jika India atau Pakistan menjadi juara Malaysia perlu tunggu sehingga Piala Oceania berlangsung dengan samada India atau Pakistan akan menjadi salah satu pasukan akan gagal ke Piala Dunia kali ini.

Bagaimanapun, jika mana-mana pasukan yang disenarai di atas juga menjadi johan peringkat benua ia akan membuka pintu kepada pasukan yang berkedudukan di luar tiga teratas Liga Hoki Dunia Separuh Akhir yang masih belum layak ke Piala Dunia.
